Welcome to the Great Salt Lake Dog Training Club

APRIL’S CLUB MEETING

Kim Beck Presents Her K9 Rattlesnake Aversion Training

Come join us at our General Meeting on April 22nd at 7:00 located at the Columbus Center. Kim Beck has accepted our invitation to come and talk to our club members for an educational presentation on K9 Rattlesnake Aversion.  K9 Rattlesnake Aversion Training is a wonderful tool owners can have to keep their dogs safe.

Kim Beck is the owner of Top Dog Snake Finders, LLC.  She is also a dog trainer and real estate agent. She loves nature and being outdoors. She also loves animals.

As a dog trainer, her passion and specialty are scent detection training. The dog is the expert in this, and she loves learning from and working with a four-legged partner. When the opportunity presented itself to her to work a rattlesnake detection dog she was thrilled. She knew she would be both handling the dog and catching the rattlesnakes. There was one problem – she was very afraid of rattlesnakes. To get over that fear she began to learn all she could about them, including attending The Biology of Pit Vipers symposium and Venom Week. She has taken venomous snake handling classes and continues to learn advanced handling skills. As she learned about rattlesnakes the fear turning into fascination of these interesting animals.

Kim enjoys being able to blend her love and expertise in scent detection with the new knowledge she’s acquiring about such a fascinating species. She would love to share that knowledge with you and help keep you safe.

Kim has two people on her DWR permit to also legally work with the snakes. Both have taken a venomous snake handling safety course and have extensive experience relocating rattlesnakes. They both have dog training experience, as well, one as a professional handler.

**Special Note-The night of the meeting, Kim will bring a contained Rattlesnake for her presentation.

We are sponsoring a seminar by Patty Biggins called “The Training Game” to be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, 2024 at Heather Berg’s facility in South Jordan.

About Patricia Biggins
Patty is a long-time exhibitor in obedience. She has been training dogs since she could walk, a passion inherited from her grandfather. While she has trained, exhibited, enjoyed, and achieved top level titles in many venues, she enjoys the challenge of combining obedience and enjoyment for the dog. A teacher by profession, she knows the value of positive reinforcement and breaking things down to the smallest step possible.

She started her obedience journey with the family Siberian Husky and stayed with that breed for multiple dogs before switching to the Belgian Tervuren, a breed she remains with to this day. Her students have included dogs from all the recognized AKC groups and have done well, achieving HITs and national rankings. Her own dogs have all been nationally ranked, garnered many HITs and HCs, and have received multiple invites to national competitions. Her current dog, Vjatar, went from CD to UD in nine shows.
Her goal is for every team to achieve attitude and accuracy. Since each dog is an individual, this goal is best achieved when the owner learns to understand their dog and to constantly adjust their training to the needs of their partner. Patty has given seminars throughout the Western states as well as in other countries. Every seminar is unique, designed with the needs of the participants in mind.

Space is limited; preference will be given to working teams (maximum of 12 teams). Unlimited auditing slots available.

The prices are as follows…

Auditing Spots: GSLDTC member = $100 for both days; non-member = $150 for both days.
